Dragon - 2023

Finished in April 2023, this 3D dragon with moveable legs is based on a paper model designed by Keisuke Saka and downloaded from the Canon website. The original has paper inside which allows downward pressure on the tail to move the head. However, I didn’t think that would work in my materials, so I changed the tail, made the neck area more solid and put a ribbon from the head down to just behind the tail. It can be gently tugged but most of the time it’s hidden because the tail needlelace meets the chest/belly needlelace and the slit between the two isn’t very visible. Also I attached the fire and limbs using press studs, so that I could move the legs and my dragon can stand up on its back legs. I felt that the long front legs in the original wouldn’t work at that angle when the model was upright, so I also changed the design of the front legs, so that they’d look more like Tyrannosaurus arms when the dragon’s upright. I added teeth, because that was quite easy to do with the very thick interfacing I tried using for the first time with this model.
