Given how much I like embroidering mice and rats, but also given that I couldn't find any semi-realistic paper models of either (and, honestly, a realistically-sized mouse would be incredibly fiddly because they're so small) I decided I would try to design a paper model myself. I failed a few times before deciding that maybe I should try an easier method, given my lack of experience. So I adapted the rabbit design from the last model, with a bit of help from Ayumu Saito's prairie dog's head (both on the Canon website).
Since the rat isn't holding a sign, you can see where the head joins the body (and can be lifted off or rotated). Overall, I was quite pleased that I managed to give the rat a mouth that opens, whiskers, and a long tail (constructed the same way as the tail for the rat in my Book of Hours).
